About us
Global Action for Racial Justice in Education (GARJE) is a research and advocacy project that explores anti-racist education initiatives across the world. We seek to build an evidence base for embedding racial justice in global education policy.
To recognise and mobilise global networks on racial justice in education
To embed racial equality as a priority in global education frameworks.
To develop an evidence base of global anti-racist education
To support anti-racist transformations in public schooling systems

For Policy Makers
Despite the existence of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, global and national education policy agendas rarely address racism directly. The SDG on Education, whilst emphasising the importance of equity and inclusion in general, makes no specific references to racial justice.
Global Action for Racial Justice in Education (GARJE) has, over the past few years, connected various policymakers who have recognised the erasure of anti-racism in global education policymaking. We host and attend platforms for policy dialogue to transform public education systems for racial justice. We aim to connect with progressive policymakers and practitioners who are addressing racism in education.
For Researchers
Global Action for Racial Justice in Education (GARJE) is committed to building a research evidence base to support global advocacy for embedding anti-racist practices in education.
We explore how individuals and communities worldwide are practising anti-racist educational principles in their respective contexts.
This website profiles some of the ‘Inspiring Practices’ of these initiatives, drawn from interviews and case-study research. These Inspiring Practices provide insights into how anti-racist education is conceptualised and implemented in specific political, cultural and social contexts. We share and connect the visions of these initiatives to work towards contextually responsive global frameworks for anti-racist education.

Advocacy
Global Action for Racial Justice in Education (GARJE) pursues bottom-up advocacy and the mobilisation of organisations, initiatives, social movements and various human rights groups. Over the years, the project has connected with over 100 initiatives around the world, seeking to build a global movement on anti-racism in education. We have worked with existing movements and alliances, including:
- The Global Campaign for Education and its national coalitions in over 100 countries
- Education International and its affiliated teacher unions around the world
- The Global Student Forum and student unions in different countries
We have an ambition to connect with more organisations and initiatives that are making progressive anti-racist interventions in education. We hope to spread learning and support for people-centred education, free from racial discrimination and other forms of intolerance.
The time has come to transform education frameworks locally, nationally and globally to recognise racial injustice in education. Globally, we want to support a Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report on racial equity and a UN Special Rapporteur Report on Education and Racial Equity and to influence the post-2030 SDG frameworks so that they prioritise racial equity.
